2021 Blessing Ceremony

A small private Blessing ceremony was held this year on Ulladulla wharf, to bless the fishing trawlers with a bountiful catch and safe return for the year ahead.

Local Italian fisherman Tony Lavalle did an amazing job of coordinating the ceremony. The tradition being close to his heart, it’s continuation very important to him.

Around 100 local Italian fisherman and their families and crew gathered for the age old tradition, the Statute of St Peter residing over the proceedings.

Father Michael performed a moving ceremony, before the Statue of St Peter was carried to the wharf to preside over the official blessing of the boats.

Ulladulla Marine Rescue took Father Michael out on the harbour to get up close to the fishing trawlers, blessing each boat individually.

It was great to see the return of the tradition of the boats cruising out of the harbour, doing a lap, before returning into the harbour to mark the occasion.

The Ulladulla Blessing of the Fleet Princess Ball 2021.

SAVE THE DATE: Saturday 13th November.

The 2021 Ulladulla Blessing of the Fleet Princess Ball has been scheduled for Saturday the 13th November.

The ball will be held at the Civic Centre, Ulladulla and promises to be a dazzling evening, with the return of dancing.

“We look forward to assisting the year 10 students to participate in a traditional event that many of them would have considered the Blessing of the Fleet Ball as a rite of passage. These girls have been looking forward to wearing a tiara and sash since they were little girls. We are excited to help maintain the tradition but also create a wonderful memory for the entrants and their families.” Clare Nyholm, Ball Chair.

Due to Covid regulations on amount of people allowed in a venue, Princess numbers will be capped at 50.
